Anaemia: How to prevent it?

Anaemia is the major health issue, that affects mostly young children, pregnant and postpartum women, and menstruating adolescent girls and women. As per the definition, anaemia refers to a condition in which the number of red blood cells or the haemoglobin concentration within them is lower than normal. This furthermore leads to less than required oxygen transport to the body cells. Main cause is narrowed down to deficiency of iron in the blood.

According to the WHO website, “Globally, it is estimated that 40% of all children aged 6–59 months, 37% of pregnant women and 30% of women 15–49 years of age are affected by anaemia”. Even so, anaemia is preventable and treatable.
